tv and films, etc

So I have the first episode of 'Kings' on in the background, and I'm not utterly convinced by it, but I like Sebastian Stan a bit more than I probably should (blame The Covenant rather than Gossip Girl - his over-acting made that film vaguely tolerable. That and the shower scene. :-/) and of course it's quite interesting that he's Spoilers )

Recent movie round-up. Spoilers.

Across The Universe )

Marley and Me )

Knocked Up )

And, finally - this week's Skins = my favourite episode of Skins ever. Not even just this series. Ever. The twins are such great characters, and I loved the depth of their relationship. The twin talk, and Katie trying to sabotage Emily's relationship, and basically the whole scene at the ball. I always feel superlative towards the end of each series of Skins. It does what it does so very well. With that said, though, I'm really not looking forward to the Cook and Effy show next week. :-/ MORE TWINS, PLS.

(gw) guy/sue ~ "la la la"

Please don't judge me?

I spent too much money on clothes just now, but when your social life is as hectic as mine currently is, that's kind of necessary. The reason for my hectic social life simply comes down to internet dating, which is hard work and annoying, but quite exciting at the same time. Consider: in two weeks, I'll have gone out with six different men on eight different dates. That's kind of slutty, I guess, but at least nobody can now accuse me of not working on my love life. See?! I can network! I can experiment!

I keep thinking, though, when it comes to second dates, I'm going to do something awful like call one of them by the wrong name, or start talking about something I already talked about on the first date. :-/

Oh-Em-Gee!

Snow day!!

I woke up at my usual ridiculous o'clock time, got down to the station for 6am to find all the usual trains had been cancelled. So I walked round to another teacher's house, who attempted to drive in, and we'd literally driven what should have been five minutes in about thirty minutes when we got a call through to tell us school had been closed.

And now it's all pretty and wonderful and LOVELY.

This is possibly the best day of my life.

Needs more boy kissing

I have just made the perfect lemon cake. Light, fluffy and just the right amount of lemon. I feel as if I've excelled myself with this one, but as usual, I am disappointed that my culinary skills are basically being wasted on my immediate family. I would make someone a wonderful wife. I really would.

The true meaning of terror

I realise that even reading about terrible ITV show 'Demons' might cause unsafe levels of disbelief and WTFuckery. This is largely unpreventable. With that in mind, I have included some topless pictures of Christian Cooke to ease your pain and mine. )

decisions decisions...

Do I watch Demons or Eurovison: Your Country Needs You tonight? On one hand... Christian Cooke! Shirtless! On the other hand... Not ITV! Therefore not completely shit!

Gosh, I do love Christian Cooke, though. I even suffered Echo Beach for that guy.

James Lance: Better to be on Echo Beach than dead.
Simon Amstell: Welllll....

Still makes me laugh. Every time.

One of my new year's resolutions is to see more theatre, even if it's on my own, even if it's rubbish. With that in mind (hopefully not the last part of that sentence), I've booked a ticket for Easter weekend to see Three Days Of Rain with James McAvoy and Nigel Harman (little Den!) I'm very excited!

Shameful confession: I don't really know this play, and figured that it might, like many serious plays, have some man kissing in it. So I've just typed in (rather hopefully) 'three days of rain gay' into Google. By the looks of things, no man kissing. Marcia Gay Harden was in it once, though.

(actors) chris evans ~ convincing geek

Obviously not a computer geek, then.

How difficult is it to install RAM? I cracked open my computer today, slotted the sticks into place, and then shut it back up. Turned on my computer, checked the properties... no difference in RAM. :-/

Various instructional sites have tried to convince me that it shouldn't be difficult at all to install, but now I've got two sticks rattling around in my computer, incorrectly, and it's making me paranoid. So off my computer will have to go to a specialist, but because of the sodding new year, that probably won't be for a few days.

Has anyone else ever installed RAM before? Did you find it incredibly straight forward or is there something tricky I need to look out for?

"Don't be stupid. This is the shoot-out."

God, what an unforgivably shitty year it's been for movies. Compiling my annual top 10 list, I quickly realised that these were mainly the ONLY films I'd seen at the cinema. Okay, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Shut The Fuck Up isn't on here, and neither is Mamma Mia, but I haven't completely taken leave of my senses. Wanted might JUST have edged out Wall-E (which I fell asleep during) if it wasn't for the horrible, horrible morality issues. I did debate whether High Scool Musical 3 deserved a place, but then looked at it realistically; I don't think you can reward a film top 10 status purely for the presence of Zac Efron's arms.

And with an introduction like that...

Here's the list )

Next year is already looking much more promising for movies, with Revolutionary Road, Milk, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Slumdog Millionaire all released in the UK soon. Don't let me down, 2009.

It's time! To face! The music!

It's the X Factor final! Two weeks ago, I abandoned the show in a big old Sharon Osborne-style hissy fit because Ruth 'Too good for a British contest' Lorenzo was voted out. Last week, I watched it despite all that, and was mildly heartened by neither Alexandra or JLS being voted out. This week, there was never any doubt that I would watch the final, but it wasn't until 100% Heterosexual Austin showed his face that I realised such a monumental occasion couldn't pass by without me recapping this shit.

And Louis is in a sparkly suit! )

"Don't wanna keep my feet on the ground, I wanna be pop-u-lar!"

I am so tired right now, and so ready for it to be Saturday already. I'm properly excited about seeing Ryan Adams. I haven't even tried to disguise my glee about it to people who have no idea who he is, or who probably just think I'm talking about Bryan Adams.

Although with that said: Shut up, Ryan Adams. I have a feeling his comments might have been misquoted or edited slightly here, but it strikes me as a pretty ridiculous subject to be talking about in the first place. Who wants to sit through a show by The Killers? Me. The same demographic who has paid to sit through a Ryan Adams' show. Just sayin'.

Another piece of news which has caught my attention:

World War Z to be made into film!

This is very exciting! I'd highly recommend World War Z to anyone with even a passing interest in zombies or politics. It's very scary, very clever, and endlessly thought-provoking. It should make an awesome film, although I'm not convinced by the choice of director. Don't mess it up, Forster. :-/

Credit crunch? What credit crunch?

I love Oasis. Not the band, because - well, just because. The shop, I mean. I loooooove it. Their designs perfectly hit all of my fashion weak spots - pretty colours, amazing details, mega cute patterns.

Today, for example, I bought this dress which is so ridiculously girly that I feel like Alice in Wonderland when I wear it. Check out the gorgeous print and the lace panel detail!

And this coat. I needed a winter coat, as my (not nearly as pretty) current one is now far too big for me since dropping two dress sizes. I always, always ask myself one question when buying new clothes: 'Would Louise from Hollyoaks wear it?' This one was a no-brainer.

Best of all, however, was my purchase from a few weeks ago. Doesn't every twenty-something deserve a hot pink strapless dress? I have nowhere to wear it, but that hardly matters. If I just have to swan around the house in it, I will, and I'll be happy, because I look amazing in it. :D

That Oasis site is amazing, by the way. Now I'm currently coveting this and wondering if this would be overkill with the pink dress.

The death of a disco dancer

X Factor!

It's disco week, the theme which every year you hope Simon Cowell will do away with, but every year turns up regardless, with only Rhydian's performance of 'Go West' any indication that disco week is remotely capable of entertaining the nation. If you didn't know already, I hate disco week.

(gg) everyone should ship c/n

(no subject)

Of all the rubbish to come out of this ridiculous Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross wankery, surely the most frustrating thing is that The Killers were due to be on The Jonathan Ross show tomorrow - and now it's been cancelled. Boo, Daily Mail. Boooo!

So, lots of teachers use their half-term holiday to catch up on various things, socialise, clean the house and stuff like that. I use mine to mainline the second series (so far) of Gossip Girl.

Some thoughts )
